This series was created for my Senior Capstone Project at Georgia College and State University.
Artist Statement
My work seeks to draw spectators into the struggles with sound that people with hearing loss face. I personally struggle with hearing loss and recently got a hearing aid. The transition of getting used to having a hearing aid led me to wanting to learn about other people’s experience with hearing loss and to share our struggles so that others can understand what we go through. Hearing issues are difficult to explain to those who do not have them. They are something you need to experience to understand fully. This series allows people to experience communication struggles and the difficulties that those with hearing loss face, which can at times be overwhelming. More broadly, this work allows viewers, and hearers, to pause and reflect on the crucial role of sound and hearing in everyday life.
